The Research Group for Green Economy and Economic Ethics at Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) organized a two‑day series of scientific, educational, and community programs in Szombathely to spotlight current issues in sustainability, sustainable food consumption, and the green economy.

The flagship event, the conference Greening the Economy: Sustainability from Strategy to Implementation, brought together researchers, students, and professionals for 44 session presentations and three plenary lectures. Held at the Savaria University Campus, the conference featured Hungarian, English, and German sessions, fostering international dialogue on topics such as ESG impacts, corporate sustainability strategies, carbon neutrality, digital technologies, green finance, sustainable tourism, and the energy transition.

Vice‑Rector Judit Mádlné Szőnyi delivered a keynote on climate adaptation and the transdisciplinary approaches driving ELTE’s Sustainability Flagship Program and the ClimEx‑PE project. Faculty members, students, and doctoral researchers from ELTE’s Faculty of Social Sciences also contributed to the program, underscoring the strong involvement of early‑career scholars.

As part of Earth Week, the event series included a thematic morning on sustainable food consumption, coordinated by Viktória Szőke, ambassador of the Maradék nélkül (“No Leftovers”) initiative. An accompanying exhibition showcased educational materials from the program and posters from the Jane Goodall Institute’s Pass It Back, Brother! campaign, highlighting food‑waste reduction and conscious consumer choices.

Together, the Szombathely programs—organized by Professors László Kovács and Viktória Szőke—demonstrated how scientific research, community engagement, and public education can jointly advance sustainability. The events emphasized that the green transition is not only a strategic priority but a shared, everyday responsibility.
