The Faculty of Social Sciences at ELTE University has joined this year’s donation campaign organized by Food Not Bombs Budapest, aiming to support people affected by period poverty.
The campaign, which collects menstrual hygiene products, runs until May 17, 2026. Members of the ELTE TáTK community can now easily take part, as highlighted by Diána Dunai, lecturer at the Department of Minority Studies and a volunteer with Food Not Bombs Budapest. Donations are collected at multiple locations across the city and distributed to those in need during the organization’s Sunday food-sharing events. The informal launch of the campaign was also attended by Vera Szabari, Vice Dean of the Faculty.
Why Does Period Poverty Matter?
Menstruation is a natural part of life—yet for many, accessing appropriate hygiene products is a serious financial challenge. In Hungary, the regular purchase of menstrual products places a significant burden on many women.
Period poverty goes far beyond discomfort. It affects school and workplace attendance, self-esteem, and physical health. This campaign draws attention to the fact that menstrual hygiene is a basic necessity—and that collective action can make a real difference.
How and Where Can You Help?
During the campaign, Food Not Bombs Budapest has placed donation boxes at several locations in Budapest, including ELTE TáTK. On campus, you’ll find the collection box next to the elevators on the second floor, in the community space.
You can contribute by donating:
• sanitary pads
• intimate hygiene wipes
At the Faculty of Social Sciences, we believe it’s not enough to reflect on social issues—we must actively respond to them. This initiative offers a simple yet meaningful way to help.
Bring a pack and drop it in the donation box—because sometimes making a difference really is that simple.
